You make a lot of great points but I have to say the most important point made is to really be passionate about the competition you are looking to enter. If you looking to enter a few competitions to simply build out your portfolio and hope earn a few bucks doing so your work will show this. In the long run you will most likely produce half effort designs that don't win any competitions and then look stale in your portfolio. Great post and very original!
